Minituber production in yam for alternative vegetative propagation: types of cuttings, substrates, and anatomy

ABSTRACT: Yam is a tuber vegetable crop with vegetative propagation. The low yielding due to the difficulty of obtaining quality material for propagation and high cost acquisition. cutting technique new alternative yam. present studyevaluated production minitubers yam through cuttings, follow formational growth minitubers. Different types obtained from three positions on shoots, substrates were tested. cuttings did not significantly affect number per cutting, this ranging 1.18 1.75. best results using Tropstrato Florestal® median-position following variables: minituber length (17.47 mm), diameter (12.63 fresh weight (2.12 g), percentage two (75%). Anatomical analysis showed cell divisions starch accumulation in nodal region at seven days after planting cutting. Emergence could be observed 21 days. stem enhanced median position shoot commercial substrate Florestal®.
